BD exclusive - State Dems cut off Mama's Boy access to voter database

In Saturday's Dallas Morning News story about Mama's Boy lying to get Democratic Party-centric endorsements, it was noted he also had access to the Texas Democratic Party voter database. This system, which is cloud-based, is the framework of campaign databases - for robocalls, phonebanks, mailing lists, voter history and even iPad apps.

BD has confirmed that just hours after the article came out, the state party staff cut off Mama's Boy's access to the database early Saturday morning. To quote one person familiar with the system

It's all cloud-based, but he probably downloaded mailing lists and some voter history files. But when it comes to updating contacts with voters, adding voters who just registered, or even knowing who they talked to before the election, they are screwed. It's not like the lights are completely shut off, but it's a lot darker in that campaign office right now.

An open letter to City of Dallas employees – If you want to keep your job and your sanity, don't vote for the Mama's Boy

Dear City of Dallas employees:

We both know that you are in a very uncomfortable position when it comes to City Council. By law, you cannot take an active role in any municipal political campaign. You can vote for a Mayor or City Council member, but you can’t sign a petition for a candidate, endorse a candidate, or even put a yardsign out on your lawn.

Back in Philadelphia, where BD grew up, city employees were required to live in the City in order to keep their job. Police officers were required to live in the city too, but not in the same district they patrolled (with nearly 50 districts, it was easy to avoid being assigned to your own neighborhood).

But in Texas, it's illegal to impose any residency requirements to live in the City unless you are above a certain executive level like Assistant City Manager or Chief of a Police Division. BD cannot name one Dallas police officer below the rank of chief who lives in the City limits (chief’s don’t have that luxury). And he can only think of five or six firefighters who live in the city.

When it comes to City Staff - the guys who write the code citations, inspect the new buildings, catch the stray dogs or answer the 311 line - it’s a big mix. BD knows of at least three high-ranking staffers who live in or around Lowest Greenville alone. By one unofficial estimate, nearly 1,000 city employees live in District 14’s boundaries.

This letter is directed to those 1,000 city employees.

Uncle Julio's (closed) restaurant burns in 3-alarm fire

The spirit of a gazillion margarita swirls filled the air as the (long-closed) Uncle Julio's Mexican Restaurant on Way Upper Greenville Avenue @ Meadow burned in a three-alarm fire early Monday morning.

Per Dallas Fire/Rescue...

At 23:50 Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call for a structure fire at the 7500 block of Greenville Avenue, near the Meadow Road intersection.

When first responding companies arrived, they reported out with a large boarded up facility with lots of fire coming from it. While initial attempts were made to breach an entry point, the fire grew far too intense and was fought defensively from the onset.

Though the fire has officially been tapped out, fire crews are still at the scene conducting overhaul procedures. Damage to the building was so severe that its condition was deemed unsafe for entry and, as a result, will have to be demolished.

There have been no reported injuries to any firefighters or civilians as a result of the fire, and the cause is under investigation.

and this morning...

I’ve received emails from multiple agencies asking if we had found a body at the scene of the Greenville 3-alarm fire.

Other than to tell you that I saw it on NBC, I can’t confirm it. However, considering that it is most likely the case, I am headed to the scene to gather the details.

Suspect steals shoes, slithers silently south

Ever so slowly, crime is creeping up on Lowest Greenville. A busted out car window here, a purse snatching there, or in this case, a good old-fashioned smack and grab.

Kinda makes you nostalgic for the old days, eh?

According to DPD report #93684-A, filed Thursday morning about 2am, a person unknown robbed someone (apparently a bar patron) in the parking lot behind the 2100 block of Greenville. He was pulled out of his vehicle, roughed up, then robbed of his iPhone and case, a stereo plate and a pair of shoes.

Shoes? Go figure.

Not So Classy Hunt faux-pas's at VPNA Candidate Forum

For years, BD has used a nickname for outgoing City Council Member Angela Hunt NSA Hunt - Not So Angelic.

She now gets a new name to wear as she leaves office, not soon enough - Not So Classy.

Hunt attended the D14 Candidate Forum at Vickery Place last evening, and it's no secret she supports the Mama's Boy, whom she endorsed probably the day after she took office eight years ago.

When a City Council member attends a neighborhood meeting, she/he is always introduced as a special guest. But, really, you would think NSC would know better than to wear a MAMA'S BOY FOR COUNCIL t-shirt to the event.

Like we said, classy, really classy.
